We’re so grateful Mark Canlis spoke with Erika on SPIRIT 105.3. He inspired us, and we hope you’ll feel the same. To listen to the full interview with Mark Canlis, click the button below.
A Seattle icon, Canlis is fine dining at its best. The award-winning restaurant overlooking Lake Union has served Seattle for three generations. It is family owned and operated, and is a symbol of excellence. And true to the Seattle spirit, the restaurant is pivoting with the times to creatively meet the needs of our community. As the updated Canlis website says, “Fine dining is not what Seattle needs right now. Instead, we’re bringing dinner to you …”
Through home delivery and CSA boxes, Canlis is retaining employees and keeping local farmers in business. It’s also bringing hope and joy to a lot of people during a very difficult time. Mark gives us a glimpse …
“We get to doorsteps and people are all dressed up and they say, ‘It’s our anniversary and we got dressed up like we’re coming to Canlis!’
“We see pictures being posted of these couples who are still honoring one another. That speaks to the resilience of the human spirit and finding ways to have a positive outlook.
“Every time I go outside, I look up and think, The sky is still up there. There’s a lot of bad news, but it hasn’t fallen down. And if God puts the sky in place, maybe I should just be thankful for the things I can be thankful for … that’s what the restaurant is trying to do. We’re asking ourselves the question – what have we been given this morning that we can do well with today?”
As we face COVID-19 and its ripple effect, God is asking us to do things that may not make sense. Throughout the Bible we see God often ask his followers to do the unexpected.
One of those times was when Jesus needed money for taxes. He could have produced that money in dozens of ways, but in Matthew 17:27 he asks his disciples to catch a fish and pull it out of the fish’s mouth. How outrageous is that? But there it was, the exact amount of money they needed.
What is God giving you today that you can use to bless your community? We’d like to hear about it.
